Early Life and Education Dewitt Loomis Alexandre was born in 1917. He was educated at The Pomfret School and later at Harvard University.

Military Service During World War II he served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a bomber pilot in the Pacific theatre, stationed at Guadalcanal, completing 48 combat missions. He was awarded three Distinguished Flying Crosses and five Air Medals for his wartime service. He achieved the rank of Major.

Career and Civic Activities Following his military service, Alexandre embarked on a corporate career. He became senior vice-president of Engelhard Industries, the world’s leading producer and refiner of precious metals.

In his local community he served as president of the Somerset Hills Country Club in Bernardsville, New Jersey, and was a member of the Essex Fox Hounds and the Somerset Lake and Game Club.
