Robert graduated from Columbia College and Columbia Law School, practiced law in Manhattan, and lived at Willow Bank in Flushing. He was active in Masonic affairs. His scrapbooks, held at the Center for Brooklyn History, document birding, fishing, and hunting between 1870 and 1933, including bird observations and photographs from Long Island.
