Joanna, trained in fine arts at Cooper Union, became a monumental artist. Her works include the 10,000 sq. ft. “Self-Organizing Galaxy” (1984) painted on the roof of World Trade Center 5, and “Stratospheric Universe” (2017). She also explored “Satellite Art for Extraterrestrials” (1989), linking earth art to cosmic imagination.

Her life has been marked by controversy. She was involved in a controversial affair with her former doctor, says she’s outraged at how they have been treated. Dr. Hunter Blair of Barrington was suspended from practice for a year for having a romantic relationship with a former patient. Hyde says the authorities involved made the wrong decision because the two weren’t involved while she was seeing Blair for psychotherapy, only afterwards. “As soon as it was apparent that this attraction would go anywhere, we immediately dismantled the doctor-patient relationship.” The College of Physicians and Surgeons argued that Blair abused his power by taking advantage of a patient. Hyde insists she and the doctor both knew what they were doing and she says she doesn’t understand why the college had to get involved. Blair is one of only three doctors in the small community.
