Dandridge, Lawrence Effingham (1888–1920)
Lawrence Effingham Dandridge was born in 1888, the younger son of Lemuel Dandridge of Hanover County, Virginia, and Isabella Lawrence of Flushing, New York. Through his father he descended from the Virginia Dandridges of “Elsing Green,” collateral to Martha Dandridge Custis Washington, and through his mother from the Lawrences and Bownes of Flushing, one of the oldest Quaker families of colonial New York.
He is included here to show the persistence of the name Effingham in all the related families.
