Early Life and Education

Allen Tupper Brown Jr., known as Tupper, was the only son of World War II officer Allen Tupper Brown and his wife Madge Shedden Brown Pendleton. He grew up with a strong sense of family history—his father’s wartime death and his step-grandfather General George C. Marshall’s prominence as Chief of Staff and Secretary of State were ever-present influences.

He attended the Lawrenceville School, Yale University, and Yale Law School, following the family tradition of professional distinction and public service.

Career and Later Life

Tupper Jr. pursued a legal career and established his residence in Greenfield, Massachusetts, where he has long been active in civic and community affairs.

A surviving photograph shows Tupper Jr. on the left with his cousins Kitty and Jimmy Winn, reflecting the close bonds among the extended Marshall, Brown, and Winn families.
