Bogert, Henry Lawrence Jr. (1883–1965)
Early Life and Education
Henry Lawrence Bogert Jr. was born on May 7, 1883, in Flushing, New York, the eldest son of Henry Lawrence Bogert (1857–1933) and Carrie Lawrence Osgood (1859–1924). While his father was a prominent attorney, Henry Jr. was raised in an environment that valued both professional diligence and social standing. His work established him as a key figure in New York’s financial district during the early-to-mid 20th century.
Marriage and Family
On June 18, 1910, he married Elizabeth Blodgett Sanford (1888–1959) in Nassau, New York. She was the daughter of George Baylies Sanford. The couple had four children: Henry Lawrence Bogert III (1911–1992), who followed his father into the financial sector; Cardine Elizabeth Bogert (1916–1991), later Mrs. Thomas Hildt; Caroline Bogert (1921–1977), later Mrs. Donald McVickar; Lucretia Leland Bogert (b. 1932), later Mrs. Abbott.
